I on the other hand was immediately drawn to acrylic because I found them so beautiful and such an array of colours. I have now made about 30 acrylic pens. I am just about to make my first wood pen. I must admit it did not take too long before I purchased a pen blank press and a pen drilling vice. I also added an extraction unit and a floor mat. Then I made a set of drawers to keep all my stuff in. Then various sets of bushes. Will it ever end ? Probably not. But I am having a lot of fun along the way. (There is no such thing as a cheap hobby). Have a wonderful day.

I think that pre '64 vices have a recessed 'record' casting whereas post '64 the casting is proud of the surface.Have a very old no.22, quick release, which has a broken body casting after years and years of very heavy use-looking to try and get a replacement-will try and refurb one when I can search one out.

Hi, I’ve got an old Clarke 20” wood lathe, every time I want to move the tailstock and / or tool rest I need to grab a spanner and undo the bolt underneath, move it then grab the spanner and tighten, doesn’t sound too bad but it’s a pain. Have you ever replaced this type of setup with quick release or arm lever bolts? Can it even be done? Cheers

Nice video. I've been turning bowls and such for several years, but I've only been in the pen game for a couple of months. So, still looking around for methods and tricks. I've used both the drill press and the lathe to do the center holes. I prefer the lathe method. I'll definitely try the center drill step. Makes perfect sense. And... like you, I like to turn wood over acrylic any day of the week.

Nice and non smokey! Just spent some time getting a completely seized drive shaft out. I thought the motor was seized when I got it but turned out to be the gearbox and drive tube

Very nice video! Thoroughly enjoyed it! Suggestion: Use a smaller diameter push rod that fit into the taper or a dowel stick that fit tightly that will not damage the steel part. What I use to dislocate the no 1 morse taper, is a spacer between the chuck and tailstock, then turning the tailstock crank to retract the chuck towards the tailstock. Very controlled method.

You need a lump hammer to hit an impact screwdriver. Zero point in using a Thor nylon one.

What is 'affordable', what was the approx. cost of this?

I recall seeing a photo in the 1960s of a Land Rover on a steel frame with a lug underneath and the whole kit and caboodle was held up in the jaws of a record vice. I've searched for ages trying to find a copy of this but no luck so far ..... anyone out there know ?? The turntables are very handy and I've found them useful for so many jobs. I bought a heavyweight workshop made 1 off jobby, for 4 quid at car boot and that worked great for renovating a 4 hundredweight anvil. The turntable is 2 feet wide using 6 car wheel bearings running on a circular track. The guy I bought it from used it for planting up huge flower pots. Great informative video mate - thanks ps. you might also like the quality of the old Parkinson 'perfect' vices, they are certainly on a par with, or even better than Record vices

Great work. You can tell you take care to disassemble using plastic drift/soft hammer etc. I cringe when I see people hammering on machined parts with steel!

So you're just cutting directly into a gas bottle without any mention of what could, and likely is inside, being that's it's a gas bottle? Any idea how ridiculous that is... You many know the status of that particular bottle, but you're showing any old fool on RUclips to just start cutting into a goddamn propane bottle willy nilly. Not good.

Thanks for sharing your ideas. I'm considering this design to also bend 6 in bar (up to 3mm thick), so side plates needs to be further apart. I will keep the 10mm thickness for side plates. Do you recommend using 20 or 25mm for the roller shafts? I will definitely limit bending square tubing to 2-2.5in though. The wider opening is mostly for bar stock

Hi mate, i purchssed the same saw a few weeks back. It didn’t come with a riving knife so i have ordered the correct one but it doesnt seem to align properly with the blade? Its to the right by like 3-4mm. Do u know how these are adjusted? Or could you show me yours in case i’m missing something? Thanks
